Senior Windows Platform Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Windows Platform Engineer to join a pioneering technical team working at the forefront of critical national infrastructure.
You will play a key role in delivering a highly resilient time scale facility designed to strengthen the UK's independence from vulnerable satellite-based timing systems such as GPS.

Collaborating closely with leading Scientists and Engineers, you will develop, deploy, and manage secure, innovative automation and infrastructure solutions to exacting standards of quality, performance, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain on-premises and cloud-based compute and storage platforms.

• Design and implement automated provisioning and configuration management systems.

• Provide technical leadership across platform engineering initiatives.

• Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for infrastructure projects.

• Maintain a strong security-first approach in all designs and operations.

• Communicate clearly and effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Deliver production-ready automation and software solutions within defined timelines and budgets.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Extensive hands-on experience administering Windows environments within critical infrastructure or secure network environments.

• Strong background in infrastructure automation and configuration management.

• Deep technical knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, LDAP, PKI, and WSUS services.

• Ability to lead and contribute to complex technical projects in high-assurance environments.

Highly Desirable Skills

• Experience managing Windows platforms within isolated or air-gapped networks.

• Administration of cloud-based platforms and hybrid environments.

• Hardware provisioning, bare-metal deployment, and physical server builds.

• Knowledge of VMware technologies including ESXi and vCenter.

Security Clearance Requirements

Due to the sensitive nature of this role, candidates must either already hold SC (Security Check) clearance without restrictions or be eligible to obtain SC clearance.
BPSS clearance will be required prior to starting, with full SC clearance necessary to work within the team.
